The Kurta is a variation of the traditional salwar kameez and it is worn by both men and women in South and Central Asia. A shorter version of the Kurta is known as the Kurti which is a female attire and most popular among women in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Srilanka. It became famous back in 1960s and 1970s during the beginning of the hippie culture and it still stands as a fashion statement. Kurtis are normally loose fitted shirt-like kameez and its length is little above the knee or sometimes just upto the waistline.
